UD: Usman Dantata jnr, I will say just came back from abroad, been out there for most of my life. I am from a trading and finance background. I have always loved fashion, even while I was trading I always had passion for fashion, I have always had businesses about fashion. While in London, I was part of this venture, one of the high end casual stores on kings road, which am not part of anymore and I moved back to Nigeria to handle a couple of family businesses, but I take this more as an hubby, something that I really enjoy doing. FM: I can see it’s a beautiful place, what efforts did you put in to achieve this? UD: I can say I had a great chance of having a mother that is into interior decorations, most of my life I have had the eye for beauty, and I have always known how to combine colours. All my life I have always loved to put on good stuff, which is a good combination, so what we have here is a product of fashion and beauty, and luckily I have always had people who appreciate beauty around me, which I feel is a great motivation for me. FM: why is this place (dboutique) hidden? UD: The explanation for that is; for the moment the labels we stock are pretty expensive, exclusive to us, exclusive to Nigeria and the whole exclusivity is what pushes us to be exclusive, stay hidden and still be reached. Word of mouth has been our main marketing tool. We stay hidden because our customers enjoy the fact that they come in here and feel relaxed in a non-rowdy environment. We stay open till late because we have a lot of executives and bankers that come in here quite late because of the nature of their job; you know they come have fun, have sweets and drinks. They feel at home generally because we make you feel it’s your place, we stay hidden really because our customers love it that way. FM: single or married? UD: single FM: any plans for marriage soon? UD: not yet FM: not met the right lady? UD: not exactly, am focusing on business right now FM: any plans for expansion to other parts of the country? UD: Yes we re actually looking into Lagos, because that is where I have most of my friends and associates, most especially have spent more time in Lagos than other parts of the country. I chose Abuja to start this because like I told you I just came back and I prefer the peace the city offers for now. Hopefully by xmas we will take this exclusivity to Lagos and maybe other parts of the country. FM: any plans of floating your own brand or label? UD: for now we work with different labels, until am sure I am ready for it I wouldn’t want to go into it, because it is a completely different business on its own, but when we are ready we will look into the possibility of making t-shirts, face caps, jeans, accessories and bags, but not anytime soon because if you look at the quality of things we stock, you will realize the makers have put in decades of hard work to get to that level, so its not something you just jump into, so for now we stick to this.
